Yesterday, we were in a meeting with AMD, where we saw their upcoming dual processors up and running in a demo system. We can\'t give out a great deal of information on the product, and AMD was reluctant to disclose the clock speed that the dual core CPU was operating at.

There isn\'t a great deal of information that we can disclose about the CPU at the moment, so we will have to leave you with a few pictures of the system up and running. The system is an Alienware digital media system; media systems, based around Windows MCE2005, are something that we expect to take off in a big way over the next twelve months, with the focus of many manufacturers switching to the digital home - an area that both video card and CPU manufacturers see as an important market sector, to invest heavily into over the coming months.

There\'s some slightly related information too. On Thursday morning, AMD announced that they were shipping their Turion 64 mobile processors - this will enable AMD to compete in the thin & light, and also the performance thin sector of the notebook market thanks to greatly reduced power consumption. One interesting thing that jumps out from the Turion 64\'s specification is the fact that the CPU has full support for SSE3 - something that its direct rival, the Pentium M, does not have in its armoury. The SSE3 instructions were introduced to the desktop not long ago in the latest E0 stepping of the 90-nanometre Winchester core.

It will be interesting to see how well this stacks up to the very successful Pentium M processor, and it\'s highly acclaimed Centrino platform. AMD will not be limiting the Turion 64 to a single platform, and we expect chipsets from ATI, NVIDIA, SIS, Uli and VIA to follow in due course.

For now, we will leave you with some pictures of the dual core system in action.
