The announcement that Alienware were making a special edition Star Wars PC was quite a while ago now, but I don't recall seeing any decent piccies of the finished items. So, when we happened to bump into one, we thought we'd grab some snaps for you.
The Dark Side case which we spotted has Darth Vader and Palpatine on one side...
...and Boba Fett and the Death Star on the other. Thankfully, the Dark Side case doesn't sport any imagery from the Prequels. However, if you were tempted by these eye-catching Star Wars graphics, despite the £300 premium over a stock system, take a look at this:
These gorgeous visuals aren't airbrushed - they're a bog-standard
CaseSkin. OK, so they're not made by
PolyGFX but they're certainly a similar printable self-adhesive vinyl. Some may find this a bit of a let down, especially after the flack we received for using "just a sticker" for
Project F.E.A.R. But honestly, I know of no other way of achieving such a polished result, especially when you consider Alienware's need for semi-mass production.
The system is on sale now for around £2799 with a 6800 Ultra, which is only £200 short of the dual 7800 system
we reviewed last week. You'd have to be a serious Star Wars fan to justify forking out for one of these - no doubt a decent chunk of the extra cost of this system goes towards paying George Lucas' hair stylist.
Having said all that, in the flesh, the system does look
almost as good as Leia in
that bikini...
