Freecom, an award-winning manufacturer of external hard drives and portable storage devices, today announced the launch of its ‘USB Memory’, a compact, portable storage device that offers up to 160GB storage capacity on a drive that is the size of a credit card.

With ultra-compact measurements of just 8.2 x 5.8 cm, the USB 2.0 powered drive weighs less than 80 grams, making the USB Memory perfect for both professional and home users who want a quick and convenient way to carry their data while on the move. The new device offers unbeatable price per GB ratio for a product this small, and provides users with enough space to safely store 32,000 digital MP3’s, 110,000 digital photos, 160 DivX movies or 36 full-length DVDs.

"The USB Memory is the latest development in Freecom's ongoing pursuit to make storage more accessible, practical and convenient," said Axel Lucassen, co-founder and SVP product line management and marketing. "The drive pushes the boundaries of storage to size ratio, giving computer users a compact and easy place to store their data whether it is for business or home usage. With the digital age bringing an ever increasing amount of data into our everyday lives, this makes it easier than ever before to store and share information - from music and movies to office work and presentations."

The wallet-sized USB Memory is enclosed in a stylish rubber casing that gives the device grip and reduces vibrations. The neatly-designed cable is conveniently small and light, providing all you need to connect and use the device on a netbook, notebook or PC. The drive also works with Hi-Fi systems and TVs, plugging into any USB port to allow users to transfer spreadsheets, presentations, movies, photos or music wherever they are. Furthermore, because the drive is USB bus powered, no extra adapter is needed – eliminating messy cabling that can easily get tangled when carried around inside a bag.

"The popularity of compact products like netbooks is on the rise because portability has become increasingly important to computer users, and there's no reason why mobile storage shouldn't follow suit," continued Lucassen. “Nobody wants clunky and cumbersome accessories for their netbooks as it defeats the object of having a truly portable computer. People simply don’t have room for large hard drives when they’re on the go, but this shouldn’t mean they have to compromise on data storage – the Freecom USB Memory combines a compact design with maximum storage space, making it the ideal accessory for any netbook user.

Pricing and availability
The Hard Drive XS is available immediately in Europe in 120GB or 160GB capacities. The recommended retail price is 99.99 GBP and 84.99 GBP respectively.
