Microsoft has pulled an update for its latest Lumia smartphones, following reports that it would fail to install or would result in an error regarding lack of storage regardless of free space, promising to release an updated update in the near future.
Although the desktop build of Windows 10 has been available for quite some time, Microsoft has been dragging its heels when it comes to the smartphone variant. The company has previously promised to bring the two device markets into feature parity, having them running the same core operating system and receiving updates at the same time, but it has been hitting some roadblocks when it comes to getting Windows 10 on smartphones.
Microsoft's most recently released update allowed users of the company's most recent Lumia smartphones to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10 Mobile even if they were not part of the Windows Insiders beta-testing track, but the company pulled it late last night following complaints from users. Many found that the update was not offered on their devices, despite being on the release list, and they turned out to be the lucky ones: others discovered that the update would get stuck at the zero per cent installed mark, while still others have been plagued by a pop-up message warning of a lack of storage regardless of the amount of free space on their handset.
'First, we want to thank everyone for their open and candid feedback on the update experience so far. Please know we're reading your comments and hearing you loud and clear,' claimed Microsoft's Mike Mongeau on the Answers site in response to complaints. 'Your input is incredibly valuable in helping us address your questions with timely updates and fixes. We are aware of issues related to the recently published Windows 10 Mobile update,' he added, saying that 'the team is working on fixes and improvements to the upgrade experience in the short term and with future releases. In the meantime, we have unpublished the 10586.29 update for Windows 10 Mobile from our public update servers while we work through these reports.'
For those who have already tried to install the update and who are seeing the recurring storage warning message, there is no workaround. 'While bothersome.' Mongeau explained, 'you can safely ignore this message.'
