EVGA has announced the impending launch of a family of budget-friendly semi-modular power supplies reaching up to 1KW: the EVGA GQ series.
Borrowing features from the company's more expensive models, the EVGA GQ family is split into four power levels: 1,000W, 850W, 750W, and 650W. Regardless of rated power output, each is 80 Plus Gold certified for a 90 per cent peak efficiency and feature 100 per cent Japanese Nippon Chemi-Con solid-state capacitors - chosen, the company has claimed, for their performance and reliability. That latter feature, in fact, is a central point: while EVGA is positioning the GQ series at the mid-point of its line-up, it's including a five year warranty with all models - a cut from the ten-year warranty offered with its high-end SuperNova range.
Each model in the GQ family is semi-modular, featuring a sleeved motherboard cable bundle while allowing peripheral power cables to be attached or detached as required. Each also comes with EVGA's Eco Mode functionality, toggled by a switch at the rear, which keeps the fan from spinning at low loads to reduce system noise when idling. All include a single 12V rail - with the top-end 1,000W model capable of offering a claimed 83.3A - and include an active clamp DC-to-DC circuit to boost overall efficiency.
More information on the new PSU family, which is based on the FSP Aurum PT design, is available from the official web site. UK pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed by the company.
