Peripherals and PC maker Razer has announced a new gaming keyboard featuring what it grandiosely refers to as 'revolutionary Razer Mecha-Membrane technology.'
Announced this weekend, the Razer Ornata is the first to feature the company's Mecha-Membrane system, which it claims is a perfect halfway house between mechanical switch keyboards and traditional rubber-dome keyboards. The base of a Mecha-Membrane keyboard, Razer has explained, is based on a sheet of rubber domes; on top of this a physical plunger and spring arrangement offers crisp tactile feedback similar to that of a mechanical keyboard, albeit one with a layer of rubber underneath the keycap to cushion the landing.

The feel isn't the only difference between the Ornata and Razer's true mechanical keyboards: the keycaps themselves are half-height, sitting lower than a traditional Cherry MX-compatible keycap, which the company claims results in a reduction in actuation time. The keyboard also includes 10-key rollover, more than your typical rubber-dome keyboard but less than the unlimited rollover of high-end mechanical keyboards.
Razer has confirmed that two models will be available at launch: the Razer Ornata with green per-key backlighting priced at £69.99, and the Razer Ornata Chroma with RGB per-key backlighting for £99.99. Both models are due to hit the UK on September 26th, with more information available on the
