The low-cost Raspberry Pi Zero single-board computer has relaunched in a new revision today, featuring the addition of a Camera Serial Interface (CSI) port.
The original revision of the Raspberry Pi Zero launched to great fanfare: featuring the same processor as the £30 Raspberry Pi Model B that launched four years ago, the Pi Zero cost just £4 and became the first computer to be given away on the cover of a magazine. Its latest revision changes little about the design - it's still the size of a stick of chewing gum, it still has the single-core BCM2835 system-on-chip (SoC) processor, and it still costs £4 - but it adds the ability to connect the device to the Raspberry Pi Camera Module.
Missing from the original Pi Zero, the small socket at the right-hand edge of the board isn't a full-size CSI connector - there's no room for that - but instead a more compact but functionally equivalent design. To use it, buyers will need to pick up an adapter cable which offers the compact Pi Zero-style CSI connector at one end and the full-size version required by the Camera Module at the other.
While stock of the Pi Zero has previously been scarce, large quantities have been shipped to partner retailers over the weekend and at the time of writing all stockists had the new model available for immediate dispatch.
