According to a report on The Inquirer, NVIDIA has been forced into limiting the supply of GeForce 7800 GTX 512 for the time being, because of a shortage of 144-pin 1.1ns memory from Samsung.
We have written a
few stories about the availability
and price of GeForce 7800 GTX 512 since we
reviewed the reference board on the 14th November.
It all seems to fit together now, though.
Our friends at
The Inq suggest that NVIDIA is limited to shipping 4000 cards a week world-wide. The problem is that demand exceeds supply by a long shot, and the 1.1ns Samsung GDDR3 memory chips have been in production for a very short time.
In fact, it wasn't all that long ago when the chips were in the sampling stage of their life cycle.
Hopefully, supply worries surrounding the Samsung chips will drop in the next month or so, meaning that the price can come down to a realistic one. Drop your thoughts
