According to one of Taiwan's leading online IT publications, DigiTimes, NVIDIA are shaping up to release a new chipset in the third quarter of this year.
It is not likely to change the face of the high-end chipset market, which is dominated by NVIDIA's current NForce 4 SLI chipset, that allows for increased gaming performance with the ability to add a second video card in to the fold. We understand that the chipset, codenamed C51, will be a mainstream chipset with an integrated graphics chip.
According to
the article, the new integrated graphics chipset will be introduced for AMD's K8 platform, but we would be surprised if NVIDIA did not produce an Intel edition of the same chipset as a target for entry level Intel systems, much like they've done in to capture the high-end of Intel's market with the NForce 4 SLI chipset.
We would be surprised if the C51 chipset's graphics chip did not use some form of TurboCache technology, to allow them to cut down on costs a little. This would follow behind ATI's lead, when they introduced the Intel edition of its Radeon Xpress 200 chipset, codenamed RS480. The RS480 chipset makes use of ATI's HyperMemory technology, which works in a similar fashion to NVIDIA's TurboCache, which
we previewed towards the end of last year.
