While we were on MSI’s stand yesterday, we saw a board that could create great interest in Intel’s Pentium M processor. The board has support for PCI-Express via the Intel 915 Mobile chipset – this is what makes this board very interesting.
We have been wondering how long it would be before someone implemented a PCI-Express based motherboard with support for Intel’s Pentium M processor.
The board also has support for both DDR and DDR2 memory modules in dual channel configurations, which allows the user to decide whether they want to use their existing memory modules, or whether they want to pick up some super-charged DDR2 memory.
The Pentium M is based around Intel’s previous Pentium 3 architecture and it is arguably faster than an Athlon 64 FX-55 at the same clock speed. It is certainly a more efficient processor to form the heart and soul of a high gaming platform.
I guess the question we have to ask now is… when will we see either an ATI CrossFire based chipset, or a chipset with support for NVIDIA’s SLI that makes use of the Pentium M’s strength in games?
