MSI has announced a motherboard for those who like things a little eye-catching: the MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon, featuring the company's programmable 'Mystic Light' system.
Designed, as if the name wasn't clue enough, around Intel's X99 chipset, MSI's latest motherboard is built with gamers in mind: the LGA 2011-3 socket is ready for Intel's latest Core-i7 Extreme Edition processors, the four PCI Express 3.0 slots feature 'Steel Armor' plating with support for three-way SLI and CrossFire support, eight DDR4 DIMM slots are equally clad in 'Steel Armor,' while a further two single-lane PCI Express slots offer expansion for other devices.
The board features plenty of USB connectivity, too: a full-bandwidth USB 3.1 Gen2 Type C port at the rear is joined by an identically-specified Type A, while the board also supports eight slower USB 3.1 Gen1 ports and eight USB 2.0 ports. MSI is also making much of having what it claims is the first motherboard to support a front-panel USB 3.1 Type C port, though it is somewhat quieter about this only being the slower Gen1 standard.
The most eye-catching feature of the board, though, is the finish. Clad in carbon black, as the name suggests, the board is equipped with MSI's Mystic Light controller which allows the various heatsinks and components to be lit up in a variety of different colours and a total of 17 animated effects. Extension strips are also available for connecting to the board's RGB LED header, to extend the lighting further into the case.
MSI's press release did not include UK pricing or availability information.
