Colorful Group's iGame sub-brand, in partnership with Chaintech, has announced the impending launch of a new Z97 motherboard with integrated liquid cooling loop for the chipset and voltage regulators.
The iGame Z97 Ymir X is the company's flagship motherboard, but while its previous incarnation - unveiled at Computex earlier this year - featured the usual heatsinks over its chipset and voltage regulator modules, the revised edition replaces this with a custom-built liquid-cooling block. Finished in brushed silver, the block loops around the CPU socket on three sides before extending to cover the motherboard chipset, and is designed for integration into a custom liquid-cooling loop or with all-in-one kits that allow for additional hardware to be added.
Aside from the new cooling system, the board is unchanged from its more typical air-cooled variant. The CPU has a 16-phase voltage regulation system designed to provide solid power delivery for overclocking, made easier by the presence of on-board tweaking and auto-overclock buttons. There are four DDR3 memory slots, three PCI Express 3.0 16x-size sockets which operate as one 16-lane, two eight-lane, or one eight-lane and two four-lane slots depending on how many are populated, and a further four PCI Express 2.0 single-lane slots. Connectivity includes eight SATA 6Gb/s ports, mSATA/mPCIe, HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort, a Killer E2200 Ethernet port, four USB 3.0 ports with an additional two available on an internal header, and eight-channel HD Audio.
iGame has not yet indicated how much the new Z97 Ymir X will fetch, nor when it intends to launch the board in western markets. The company is also silent on whether or not it plans to offer the cooling system as an add-on for customer who have already purchased the air-cooled variant.
