A new survey by Japanese price comparison site
Kakaku has revealed that Japanese reaction to 3D TV technology mirrors that in the US, with only 31 percent of Japanese consumers intending to buy a 3D TV in the future.
The new survey offers similar results to those gathered by a CEA survey in American, where only 27 percent of US 'avid gamers' expressed an intent to invest in 3D TVs, according to
GI.biz.
67 percent of the 8957 people surveyed by Kakaku said they were not interested in 3D TVs, despite the fact that the survey coincided with E3 2010, where many companies unveiled 3D products and launches.
"
Television makers' expectations for 3D are high but looking at the degree of interest among consumers, there is a big gap with the enthusiasm of manufacturers," said Tsuyoshi Kamada, head of Kakaku.com's media-creative section.
The biggest put off for the 67 percent of nay-sayers was the use of 3D glasses, which 70 percent complained about, followed by the price (57 percent objected) and the lack of content (40 percent).
Sony meanwhile claims that 40 percent of all TVs will be 3D by 2014.
