After several months of being exclusive to the US, Motorola has finally launched its flagship Moto X phone in Europe.
The phone will be hitting France, Germany and the UK with a release date of 1 February. It will retail for £380 (or free on £25 per months contracts) or €399 and, here in the UK, will be available from Amazon, Carphone Warehouse, O2,
Phones 4u and Techdata.
This price is a little higher than might have been expected given the handset sells for $399 in the US.
European customers also miss out on the customisability that US customers get. In the States users can choose from different colours for the chassis and highlights along with a multitude of finishes for the back. The European versions will just be black or white.
The phone is also relatively modest when it comes to specs, especially for its price. With a 720p 4.7in AMOLED screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro (1.7GHz Dual-Core Krait CPU, quad-core Adreno 320 GPU), 10MP camera, 2200mAh battery and either 16GB or 32GB of storage (no microSD), it's really only a mid-range phone.
Nonetheless reviews from the US have generally been positive, citing the phone's all-round good usability. This mass appeal is clearly something Motorola is aiming for, rather than getting into a specs-war with the likes of Samsung, as the company's Moto G handset has already shown. Retailing for under £150 it was awarded the phone of the year 2013 by several tech titles due to its astonishing performance for the price.
