Memory maker Team Group has announced a range of compact SODIMM DDR3 RAM aimed at small form factor and laptop gaming rigs: the Neptune family.
Available at 2,133MHz or 1,600MHz speeds, the Team Group Neptune range is claimed to be designed with gamers in mind. Released to coincide with the latest Steam Machine hybrid consoles, the more compact of which use the laptop-style SODIMM devices in place of full-size DIMMs, the company claims that its use of aluminium heat-spreaders and top-end parts mean that the new modules are more suited to overclocking while also offering pleasing performance at stock speeds.
Available in 4GB and 8GB capacities, and in single- or dual-channel kits, the timing of the modules depends on the frequency: the 1,600MHz modules run at CL9-9-9-24, while the faster 2,133MHz modules run at a more relaxed CL11-11-11-28. Both operate at a working voltage of 1.35V, and include the aforementioned aluminium heat-spreader for improved cooling. All eight options in the range are also backed by a lifetime warranty.
The company has confirmed that it is currently running the modules through compatibility verification for mainstream gaming laptops and ITX motherboards, with module availability in the UK sales channel pending. UK pricing, unfortunately, has not yet been confirmed.
