Nvidia has once again begun updating its Shield Tablet and Shield Tablet K1 customers' devices to the latest version of Android, having previously cancelled the update due to a Wi-Fi killing bug.
Earlier this month Nvidia released an over-the-air (OTA) update for its Shield Tablet and Shield Tablet K1 Android devices, designed to upgrade the operating system to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Sadly,
the update was bugged: users who installed it soon found that their Wi-Fi connections stopped working, the latest in a string of calamities affecting the Shield product family from
mechanical failures and
fire hazard batteries to
faulty hard drives in the micro-console variant.
Thankfully for owners of the gadgets, though, Nvidia has found the root of the problem and patched it. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is once again available through the tablet's Settings menu, with Nvidia stating that it is '
confident we have corrected the problem' that had resulted in Wi-Fi taking a holiday when the original update was applied.
Naturally, installing the update over-the-air requires that the tablet has a working Wi-Fi connection. Anyone who received the earlier faulty update before it was pulled from distribution should have already followed
Nvidia's instructions to restore connectivity to their device, after which the new update can be installed as normal to fix the problem once and for all.
