Lenovo last night launched three new entries in its Yoga family, the Yoga Tablet 2, Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, and the Yoga 3 Pro laptop, as it celebrates its position at the top of the traditional PC market.
The Yoga Tablet 2, to start, builds on the multi-layout feature of the original Yoga with an additional stand mode: Hang, which joins Stand, Hold and Tilt to form what the company claims is the most versatile tablet design around. The internals have been upgraded to include an Intel Atom processor, dual front-facing speakers with Dolby Audio, dual-band Wi-Fi and a micro-USB port with USB OTG support and the ability to charge a separate mobile phone if you haven't drained the claimed 18 hour battery life. Interestingly, the device will be available in both Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4 KitKat in a choice of 8" or 10" 1,920x1200 display models. Models with integrated 4G connectivity, supplied by Intel's XMM 7160 modem, will also be launched, the company has confirmed.
'Our second generation Yoga Tablets give users the freedom to do more – go hands free and hang the tablet from the wall with the new Hang mode; get unparalleled sound on a tablet with loaded audio features; and choose the operating system that’s right for them - Android or Windows,' claimed Lenovo's Jeff Meredith at the launch. 'So all in all, the tablets give you more modes, more performance and more choice.'
The Yoga Tablet 2 family is completed with the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, which boasts a larger 13" 2,560x1,440 QHD screen. If that isn't enough, the self-described 'media tablet' designed in part by - of all people - actor Ashton Kutcher also boasts a built-in pico projector and an eight watt sound system with rear-mounted sub-woofer. The larger screen does, however, mean a drop in battery life to a still-impressive 15 hours, and the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro will be sold exclusively with Android 4.4. As with its smaller brethren, the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro is powered by an unspecified fourth-generation Intel Atom processor and includes 32GB of storage, expandable via micro-SD.
The final entry in the upgraded Yoga family is the Yoga 3 Pro, a convertible laptop boasting a QHD+ 3,200x1,800 13" multi-touch IPS display and the ability to fold back into Laptop, Tablet, Tent or Stand modes. Internally, the device includes Intel's latest Core M-70 low-power processor, up to 512GB of SSD storage, and a claim of up to nine hours of battery life. Compared to its predecessor, Lenovo claims the new model is 17 per cent thinner at 12.8mm and 14 per cent lighter at 1.19kg. The device will be available in three colours at launch: Clementine Orange, Platinum Silfer and Champagne Gold.
