EVGA told bit-tech the current GTX 295 was a nightmare to manufacture, but that the updated one is both easier, and cheaper to create thanks to using only a single PCB, which should also mean it gets a bit more price competitive with the HD 4870 X2.
The new model still uses an 8-pin and 6-pin power plug, and EVGA is gearing up a watercooled "Hydro Copper" version as well as a standard air-cooled board too. The waterblock has been customied for EVGA - inside there are dozens of little "E"s in the EVGA font to agitate the waterflow!
EVGA claims it’ll be available very shortly, but it won’t have any more memory or higher clocks than the GTX 295s already on the market – but that might not rule out pre-overclocked options, depending on how effective the new cooling hardware is.
