AMD partner Sapphire has announced a new entry in its Radeon graphics card family: the Sapphire Radeon R9 380 ITX Compact Edition, built specifically for small form factor gaming systems.
Based on the company's existing Radeon R9 380, the ITX Compact Edition features a shorter PCB measuring just 171mm in length. It's this, coupled with a multi-heatpipe cooler based around a single fan, which Sapphire claims makes the card perfect for small form factor systems which nevertheless require above-average graphics performance for gaming at resolutions '
at 1080p and beyond.'
The board itself features AMD's Graphics Core Next (GCN) GPU with 1,792 stream processors running at 980MHz and 2GB of GDDR5 video memory running at 1,400MHz for an effective transfer rate of 5.6GB/s. As with other, larger, cards in its class, the board include support for AMD's TrueAudio technology, media acceleration, and the Virtual Super Resolution (VSR) and Frame Rate Target Control (FRTC) features which AMD claims can make the world of difference when running games on 1080p displays.
The two-slot card is EyeFinity multi-display ready, and includes one DVI-D, one HDMI, and two Mini DisplayPort connectors on its rear. Sapphire claims a thermal design profile of 225W, with power being provided via an eight-pin PCI Express power connector.
The board has begun shipping world-wide, Sapphire has confirmed, priced at £159.99. More information is available on the company's
product page.
