Nvidia has announced that it is now offering copies of Tom Clancy's The Division free with certain graphics card or notebook purchases.
Anyone who purchases either a GTX 970 or above or a notebook with at least a GTX 970M in will receive a free copy of the upcoming online open world third-person shooter/RPG. The game is slated for release on March 8 - a little over two weeks away.
The Division, which has been beset by multiple delays since its annoucement at E3 2013, uses Ubisoft's new Snowdrop engine, a proprietary engine developed specifically for next-gen consoles and PCs. It will be the first game released to feature the engine, which has been used to create and open world version of New York.
Naturally, for the best experience users will need to be playing on PC, where they'll be able to render it in up to 4K (3,840 x 2,160) - provided, of course, they have the necessary GPU grunt. The official recommended specifications list either a GTX 970 (or AMD R9 290 for the red team). That's where the connection to Nvidia comes in, as The Division is also able to take advantage of two specific Nvidia GameWorks technologies; HBAO+ and PCSS. The former is designed as an upgrade to standard ambient occlusion techniques for more realistic shadowing around objects and surfaces. It has previously been used in games like Assassin's Creed Syndicate and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, among others. PCSS (Percentage Closer Soft Shadows) is a means of adding soft shadows that soften as the distance from the casting object increases.
The bundle is active now and available at all the usual e-tailers.
