EVGA has announced the launch of what it calls 'the world's most advanced GeForce GTX 980,' a pre-overclocked variant created in partnership with Vince ‘K|NGP|N’ Lucido.
The EVGA GeForce GTX 980 K|NGP|N, to give the new board its proper title, is designed to sit at the top of EVGA's gamer-oriented range. Its various modifications from a stock model range from the aesthetic - LED lighting with software-controllable colour options - to those aimed at wringing every last drop of performance from Nvidia's high-end GPU. The latter includes a 12-layer printed circuit board with additional copper for improved power delivery, supported by a 14+3-phase fully-digital voltage regulation system running at a claimed 28°C lower than a reference-design card.
'
The power designs for both the GPU and memory on the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 K|NGP|N graphics card should allow some insane overclocking and some of the highest clockspeeds seen to date,' boasted Lucido of his partner company's release. '
Also, with the new multi-colour LED cooler, you can customise the look of the card to fit any system.'
Additional changes, made with Lucido's input as an experienced and record-holding overclocker, include the use of EVGA's ACX 2.0+ cooling system with double-bearing fans and metal shroud - both combining with straight heat-pipes to the cooler to provide, the company claims, improved cooling, lower fan power consumption, and a four-fold increase in expected fan lifespan. For those who prefer their cooling a little more liquid, a bundled bracket allows the card to be quickly converted into a single-slot model when a suitable waterblock is fitted.
Naturally, with Lucido's branding, you'd expect various overclocking-friendly features. So, it's no surprise to find the board includes EVGA's EVBot overclocking software, a full-size direct-contact cooling plate over the memory and MOSFETs, an optimised power target some 128 percent higher than a reference design, and a quick-switch triple-BIOS. The board runs at 1,291MHz stock or 1,393MHz at boost, and includes the usual 2,048 CUDA cores and 4,096GB of GDDR5 memory of any other GeForce GTX 980.
The boards are due to arrive in the market on the 19th of February, with more information available on the
official website. UK pricing has yet to be confirmed, with the EU recommended retail price set at €749.99 (around £566).
