AMD has released a new Catalyst driver bundle, Catalyst 15.7, boasting DirectX 12 and Windows 10 support alongside full WHQL certification.
Released ahead of the launch of Windows 10 later this month, Catalyst 15.7 includes new features for those running Microsoft's latest operating system: support for the new DirectX 12 application programming interface (API); high-resolution streaming via hardware-accelerated High-Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC) decoding; improved resume times from sleep; and support for the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 2.0, which is claimed to reduce the driver workload on graphics hardware and quickly switch between modes without the traditional black-screen flicker.
'
We are thrilled to deliver our latest driver upgrade, making customer experiences with Windows 10 and AMD even more entertaining and intuitive than ever,' boasted Ari Rauch, corporate VP of software development at AMD. '
The AMD Catalyst 15.7 driver enables a refined user experience, with better gaming, better streaming and video quality, and incredible efficiency, taking AMD's Graphics Core Next (GCN) state-of-the-art architecture to the next level.'
Additional features in the new driver bundle for users of Radeon R7 260 and above GPUs include Frame Rate Target Control (CRTC), allowing real-time frame-rate control limiting and Virtual Super Resolution (VSR) for rendering at high resolutions and then downscaling for display. Improvements have also been made to AMD's FreeSync dynamic refresh rate technology, which can now operate in CrossFire mode.
'
We are very excited about what AMD is bringing to gaming with the new capabilities in the latest AMD Catalyst Driver,' claimed Kam VedBrat, Microsoft principal group programme manager, of the release. '
With full support for DirectX 12 and WDDM 2.0 in this latest AMD Catalyst driver for AMD APU and Radeon Graphics processors, customers can benefit from improved multithreaded scaling and CPU utilisation; reduced GPU overhead; and ultimately richer, smoother, more compelling games.'
The new Catalyst 15.7 driver bundle is available to download now from AMD's
