Earlier this morning, Intel pulled back the covers on its first desktop processor with a 1333MHz front side bus speed, the Core 2 Duo E6750. We published a performance preview of the new chip this morning for you to have a look at.
There are some interesting performance characteristics in some scenarios and it's well worth checking out if you're in the market for a new processor.
One thing that Intel didn't reveal to bit-tech before the launch was the expected retail price of the Core 2 Duo E6750. However, DailyTech has come up trumps with what looks to be the chip's 1000-unit tray pricing, which will reportedly come into effect on July 22nd.
The site's information matches up with previous rumours, which suggested that the Core 2 Duo E6850 would ship for $266.
Arguably the biggest surprise is the Core 2 Duo E6750's unit price of $183 - that is the price that Intel currently ships the Core 2 Duo E6420 and E6400 for. A quick look on bit-tech's shopping engine reveals that the Core 2 Duo E6420 is selling for as little as £112.78 (inc VAT) in the UK or $185 (ex. Tax) in the US.
If this rumour proves to be true, that works out at almost £30 cheaper than the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and Core 2 Duo E6600. This makes for an even more compelling buy than we had initially thought.
