Cooling specialist Calyos has opened a crowdfunding campaign to fund production of its NGS S0, claimed to be the 'ultimate fanless PC case,' with prices starting at €549 (around £474).
Best known for its looped heat-pipe cooling systems, sold into the data centre and industrial markets, Belgium-based Calyos has been looking to break into the enthusiast PC market for some time. Now, it claims to be ready and has opened the doors of a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to build what it bills as the '
ultimate fanless PC case,' supporting fan-free cooling of top-end hardware including an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card.
The Calyos NSG S0 is based around the company's phase-change cooling platform, which throws high-pressure coolant through blocks attached to the LGA1151 CPU socket and GPU. Offering the ability to cool below freezing, the refrigeration system then connects to bulky radiators which make up the majority of the case's size and weight. The company also plans to launch pre-built PCs constructed inside the NGS S0, featuring Intel's Core i7-7700K CPU and Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card.
The case itself supports standard ATX power supplies and motherboards up to E-ATX in size, and includes the option of installing 120mm fans in the system to force air over the radiator fins - something the company claims will only be necessary for those looking into '
extreme overclocking. Four hard drives are supported, and the company claims it will supply blocks compatible with any AMD or Intel motherboard and any graphics card upon completion of the campaign.
The company has priced the NGS S0 at €549 (around £474) for 'early bird' backers, with the initial extra-early €479 pricing having been exhausted. From there, prices rise in stages: after the 200 Early Bird levels have been pledged, of which there were 93 left at the time of writing, the price increases to €619 for the next 300 and €649 thereafter. Higher-level pledges include a ten-pack and a limited-edition copper model, both priced at €5,999, and a €7,999 pledge to meet with Calyos and create a custom design. Stretch goals have also been confirmed, with the majority centring around themed skins for the cases.
Full information is available on the
project's Kickstarter campaign page, though the usual caveats apply: while Calyos is an established company and has shown functional prototypes of its case to third parties, this is no guarantee that the company will actually be able to deliver on its promises - in particular claims it will offer cooling blocks compatible with any graphics card on demand.
