Peripherals specialist Razer has announced the impending launch of its first ever sound bar, the Leviathan, which offers virtualised 5.1-channel surround sound and Bluetooth 4.0 atpX connectivity.
Perfect, Razer claims, for gaming, films and music, the Leviathan features two 2.5" full-range drivers and two 0.74" tweeters arranged in a Dolby Virtual Speakers layout. The result is the ability to take a 5.1-channel input and reproduce it convincingly despite the lack of rear speakers. For improved bass, the Leviathan comes bundled with a 5.25" downward-firing sub-woofer. Overall, the total power output is rated at 30W for the soundbar and a further 30W for the passive sub-woofer. The soundbar itself can be adjusted to tilt at 15 degrees, 18 degrees, or to lie flat.
'
The opportunity to produce a precision-engineered surround sound solution for high-performance gaming, movie watching and music listening, and make it versatile to use in any setting, was a very exciting proposition for us,' claimed Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and chief executive, at the unveiling. '
The Razer Leviathan delivers what music aficionados, movie buffs and gamers alike are looking for to improve their entertainment setup.'
Razer has clearly thought through how the Leviathan might be used: as well as optical and analogue inputs supporting both Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II decoding, the sound bar includes Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity using the high-quality aptX codec. Near-field communication (NFC) technology allows compatible devices to be paired with a simple tap, while the radio itself features a claimed range of ten metres. A built-in equaliser comes with four pre-set modes for gaming, music and films.
The Razer Leviathan is due to launch in Europe in November, priced at €199 (around £157 excluding taxes.) More details are available on the
official product page.
