A-Data has just announced the fastest DDR3 memory to date, clocking up at an astounding 2,000MHz. In the past, we have looked at some
Corsair 1,800MHz and Super Talent 1,866MHz but this takes it to a level above that again.
It'll be perfect memory to go with
a new X48 board, if your thing is needing the upper fringes of performance, and it should be available in the next few weeks here in Blighty, providing you can afford it.
Underneath the
cool black heatspreader exterior are the exact same Micron D9GTR memory chips that feature in both the Corsair and Super Talent sticks, so nothing revolutionary there - A-Data just cranks up the voltage to a massive 2.05-2.15V and a lowers the latency to a very loose 9-9-9-24 to compensate.
There's arguably little doubt that the Corsair and Super Talent could arguably achieve the same with the same voltages and latencies, because all the modules have the same Micron chips, but what's important is that more competition = lower prices. Finally DDR3 might becomes a bit more attractive to buy.
All of the DIMMs have a lifetime warranty, which is necessary when you're forcing over 33 percent more voltage than you should through them.
So, your next upgrade or is all this "new top clock speed" just pointless ego inflation material that has little real world application? Let us know your thoughts,
in the forums.
