Gosh, the hits just keep on coming. Sony's debut standalone Blu-ray player has been delayed
again - this time, until October 25th.
The player was originally due to come out in May, but was put back to July, then August, and now October. Crazy.
There's no guarantee that it won't be pushed back further, perhaps to coincide with the release of the PS3 in November.
Samsung has released a handful of its first Blu-ray player into the market already, with a a further trickle of the devices released in the next couple of months.
Meanwhile, Toshiba has been ramping up production of its two HD-DVD players, which went on sale in June.
Allegedly, Sony has delayed its player so that it has enough of the drive mechanisms to fulfil its Playstation 3 requirements.
Can Blu-ray continue to compete against HD-DVD, given that Sony's format will now be around 5 months late to the party?
