Here's a quick newsbyte for all you hardware enthusiasts out there. OCZ has dropped a press release about the new addition to their lineup -
1100MHz DDR2 modules. Though the speed increase isn't
that much of a step up from where things were previously, it gives overclockers for the new Conroe and AM2 processors that little extra headroom to squeeze a bit more out of the chips.
Even better yet, the new RAM is lacking one particular downside to speed increases - its timings aren't horrible. In fact, for DDR2, they're actually really good, at a tight 5-6-6. OCZ will release the new modules in 2GB dual-channel packs (2x1GB sticks) under the brand name OCZ PC2-8800 Gold Edition.
A quick quote from the press release:
“DDR2 speed grades evolve faster than anybody would have thought to be possible,” commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology Group, “and we are proud that OCZ has played a major role in this push for new performance superlatives. The result of our constant effort to fine-tune components and maximize their performance, once again pays off in our release of the world’s first 1100 MHz DDR2 system memory modules.”
Got a thought on the speed increase? Since poor RAM is one of the top problems with overclocking, would you consider tossing these chips in your new Conroe rig to see how far you can push it? Let us know
