Merom, the mobile processor based on the new Core architecture from Intel, will be out in August, according to
Tom's.
Woodcrest, the Core server chip, shipped a couple of weeks ago. Conroe, the desktop version, will hit in three weeks. Merom is the version that will end up in many laptops, and is another month and a half out.
However, Conroe will also be in many notebooks - despite having better-than-desktop speed, its power consumption is only 65W or thereabouts - well within the thermal specification of many notebook chasses on the market. Conroe will bring a new level of power to desktop replacement notebooks!
Merom should enable thinner, lighter notebooks with more battery power. We're dying to get our hands on a chip and we'll let you know just as soon as we do. In the mean time, let us know your thoughts on Core
over in the forums.
