According to Chinese speaking website,
HKEPC, NVIDIA's board partners are preparing SLI-ready GeForce 6600 LE video cards which, interestingly, use the same PCB as the GeForce 6600 GT.
One partner, Galaxy, is basing their GeForce 6600 LE on their GeForce 6600 GT Smart Flash, which
we reviewed last week. If we go back to the end of that review, we mentioned that the Smart Flash implementation would be great if there were additional pipelines to unlock with either NVStrap or a BIOS flash.
This could certainly come in useful with the GeForce 6600 LE, which is based on the NV43-V GPU - the same core that is used on the NV43-based GeForce 6200. It is a cut down version of the NV43, with only four of the eight pixel pipelines enabled. You can, however, unlock the GeForce 6200, allowing it to use all eight pixel pipelines with the help of NVStrap or, of course, a BIOS flash.
The core is clocked slightly higher than the GeForce 6200 - it is rumoured to be set at 425MHz, while the GeForce 6200 was only clocked at 300MHz. While we understand that Galaxy are likely to launch a GDDR3 version with the memory clock speeds increased from the believed reference clock of 500MHz up to a mightly 1GHz.
There is no driver support for this video card at the moment in either the latest official Forceware drivers or the latest leaked drivers for that matter, but we expect the next official Forceware drivers will be released some time towards the end of July.
The cards will be priced very cheaply - around $70 or £50, depending on which side of the Atlantic you are from. Anybody for a cheap (possible) GeForce 6600 GT that will be SLI ready?
