Tomorrow you'll be able to plug a controller in to you PC or Mac and connect to your PS4 with Remote Play, as long as you've got the right updates.
Previously the PlayStation 4's Remote Play system was only available to those of us with a PlayStation Vita and the tiny handheld's tinier screen wasn't really up to the job of showing us all the PS4's lovely detail.
I travel a lot for work and my trusty Macbook's Retina display is probably much better suited to the task, in addition to allowing me to play Hitman (my current PS4 obsession) while away on trips, providing the internet connection is up to the challenge.
There's a catch: Remote Play requires Windows 8.1 or later and for those of us on Apple devices either OS X 10.10 or 10.11. Players will be able to adjust resolution and frame-rate dependant on your connection speeds, but there are plenty of good options:
- Resolution options: 360p, 540p, 720p
- Default resolution – 540p
- Frame rate : Standard (30fps), High (60fps)
- Default frame rate – Standard (30fps)
But it's not all playing your PS4 on holiday. System Update 3.5 also allows us to finally appear offline, allowing me to finally enjoy watching Blu-rays in peace. On the flipside, you can also turn on notifications for when your friends come online, and some improved social sharing stuff for those of you that actually have friends.
