Reader Chris Adams, writes:

"Ubuntu's latest distribution was released on October 13th, which also happens to be the birthday of one of their lead developers, Matt Zimmerman.

The new version features Gnome 2.12, KDE 3.4.3, OpenOffice.org 2.0 (Beta 2), and Linux Kernel 2.6.12.5.

What this means to us mere mortals is that Linux is easier than ever to install on your personal computer, whether it be an AMD 64 powered PC, a PowerMac G5, or even a Pentium 4 laptop to name a few!

Updates and software installs are easier than ever, and on top of that, Ubuntu will send you professional grade CDs free of charge!

To download CD images, go to ubuntu.com/download.

To order free CDs, go to shipit.ubuntu.com.

And, for more details on version 5.10 head here."

Breezy Badger? That has to be the best codename ever. Ubuntu has been the subject of much discussion on our Forums recently, after Chris' last column about his experiences in switching to Linux. Join in the discussion here.
