MySpace, the world's leading social networking site, is to sell episodes of Fox shows online. For $1.99, you can get episodes of the show to download to your machine.
Through a promotion with Burger King, users will also be able to get two free episodes to download.
MySpace has an incredibly large userbase, and News Corporation is hoping that it can market products to users. A recent article in
Playboy offline suggests that the advertising on MySpace is now getting to the point where the service is becoming overtly commercial and is putting off new users.
Fox recently made 24, along with other shows, available for download from iTunes. The MySpace downloads are encoded with Windows DRM, whereas the iTunes downloads are encoded with Apple DRM. For purists, BitTorrent downloads include no DRM at all, and may or may not be legal depending on where you live.
Go and check out the free episodes, then let us know your thoughts on MySpace's increasing advertising
on the forums.
