OilPC @ Atomic Live 2005

Our all Australian readers are advised to take the day off work tomorrow and get down to The Entertainment Quarter (formerly Fox Studios) in Sydney for Atomic Live 2005. The event is billed as the "World's greatest FREE tech expo and gaming event" - it certainly threatens to be the biggest geek-oriented event to hit the city since Keanu Reeves discovered there was no spoon there in 1999.
The event is very generously supported by a number of industry sponsors. Local gaming nuts will get their first opportunity to play Xbox 360, which isn't released Down Under until March 2006 (can you believe that?) and our own Brett Thomas is going to kill me when he finds out that Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion will also be playable. Vivendi will be there converting more innocents to the cult that is World of Warcraft, and Activision, Rockstar and 2K Games are also showing off their wares.
From a hardware perspective, AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, Gigabyte, Seagate, ASUS and Albatron will all be there with their latest gear on display and yes, there will be prize giveaways!
Of course, no geek-fest these days is complete without our favourite subject: modding. Atomic Live 2005 is no exception. Central to the promotion of the event is 'OilPC' created by Atomic's master modder, Ron Prouse. The entire system is submersed in a non-conductive oil and then had a bucket of dry-ice tipped over the top. The result: minus 61 celcius "ambient" temperature, and a core temp of minus 7 under full load. The video trailer is worth downloading.
There will also be several other custom cases on the Atomic stand, but for bit-tech readers, the fun & games kick off at 12:30pm. Our own Pete 'G-gnome' Dickison is being officially presented with the Atomic Hotbox of the Year award he won for Orac³ and we will give the audience a special sneak-peak at the latest progress on his current project, WMD. For those who can't make it to Atomic Live 2005, the next installment of the WMD Worklog will appear right here on bit-tech later in the month.
Pete & I are also hosting a 45-minute Modding Clinic on the Main Stage. We'll be talking about the Evolution of Modding: from Blowhole to Blown Away, the Making of Orac³ and WMD, and Q&A with the audience. We're there all day, so if you miss the lunchtime session, just drop by the Atomic Stand and say g'day.
