Microsoft has announced today that it has teamed with Universal Studios to bring a host of new movies to the Xbox 360s archive of downloadable films on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
The deal was announced today by UK xbox 360 boss Neil Thompson, according to
Eurogamer and will see 29 new films moving to the console initially, with more to follow in the future.
Pricing for the movies is currently in line with other films on the Xbox 360 marketplace, with new releases costing 540 MS points in HD and 360 MS points in standard definition - that's £4.50 and £3.00 GBP in real money, respectively. Older titles are available at a slight discount, costing 380 MS points (£3.20 GBP) for HD downloads and 250 MS points (£2.10 GBP) in standard definition.
While there are some damp squibs in the initial line-up, like
Waterworld, there are definitely some classic films in there too -
Shaun of the the Dead, anyone?
The success of movie downloads on the Xbox 360 has been a bit mixed so far, with many users being affected by slow or incomplete downloads when the system first launched.
