Stainless Games, the developer behind the original Carmageddon, has announced a new title in the infamous racer-killer series after reacquiring the franchise.
The new game will be dubbed Carmageddon: Reincarnation and will be a download-only titled with a tentative 2012 release date. It'll be the first game in the series that Stainless has worked on since Carmagedon: Carpocalypse Now.
Stainless Games is currently working on the game independantly, but is looking for a partner to help the team move the project on to '
full production'.
'
Originally an ambitious title that tested the hardware limits of its day, we're excited that the game will finally get the showcase it deserves on today's platforms,' said Stainless co-founder Patrick Buckland.
The developer has confirmed that this latest title will continue to showcase the same black humour and gore as previous titles in the series. The original Carmageddon, which saw racers earn time to complete races by running down pedestrians, was the subject of much controversy when it was first released.
'
All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return,' said Stainless Games' Neil Barnden in an official statement. '
We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt.
No platforms are yet announced for the title, but the small print on the press release makes mention of Xbox Live Arcade.
