Microsoft has issued a surprise announcement today, proclaiming that
Alan Wake will be published a week earlier than planned in Europe.
That means
Alan Wake will now hit European shelves on May 14th, 2010, rather than May 21st, according to a new press release.
"
Fans in the UK have been crying out to get their hands on Alan Wake since it was first announced and we're thrilled to be able to deliver it to them early," said Microsoft's Stephen McGill.
Unfortunately though, the game is still only down to be released on the Xbox 360, despite the fact that it was originally announced as a PC game that would have been Vista-exclusive and shown off lots of fancy new DirectX 10 graphics.
Alan Wake is being developed by Remedy and written by Sam Lake, the scribe behind Remedy's previous hit,
Max Payne. The game is all about an author whose wife goes missing in the town of Bright Falls and who starts to lose his grip on reality. Very
Silent Hill / Twin Peaks.
Remedy have previously defended
Alan Wake's platform migration by saying that
it was Microsoft's decision and that they are only a small developer. Microsoft then replied by saying that the style of gameplay is
more suited to the Xbox than PC.
