Wargaming has announced that it will be bringing its free-to-play game World of Tanks to the Xbox One.
The news comes just over a year after it made its debut on Xbox 360. Fans of that version will be pleased to know that the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions of the game will support cross-platform play as soon as the game is released. This means you can still play against your friends on Xbox Live, even if not all of you have transitioned to the latest console generation.
If you've sunk a lot of time into the Xbox 360 version, you also won't need to worry about having to start the long grind again to get to where you were. Provided you're still using the same Xbox Live account, all of your progress will carry over to World of Tanks for Xbox One. This includes vehicles, Experience, Credits, Gold and bonus items, since all of these are tied to your Xbox Live account. This also means that progress is fully maintained even if you happen to own both systems and play World of Tanks on both.
Naturally, World of Tanks on Xbox One will see a graphical upgrade over its predecessor. However, further details on the new edition are scarce, though IGN is
reporting that the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions will also continue to be updated at the same pace, so it appears they will be largely the same, if not identical, from a gameplay perspective.
As with the Xbox 360 version, World of Tanks on Xbox One will be a free download, but only for those who have already purchased access to an Xbox Live Gold account. For non-Gold members, a seven day trial will be offered instead. In line with its standard pricing strategy, additional items can also be purchased in-game.
Wargaming has not offered a release date for the Xbox One version beyond saying it will be some time this year.
World of Tanks has seen over five million downloads on Xbox 360 alone, with players coming from nearly 150 countries.
