World in Conflict is, quite simply, one of the best strategy games I've ever played - which is a tough thing to say given that it had to knock
Red Alert off the top spot.
I have to admit that I'm a bit dubious about the Xbox 360 version of the game though, as I've never really had a good hardcore RTS experience on a console - the controller just isn't suited to that kind of game.
Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to have to wait a long time before I even get a chance to size up the Xbox 360 version of the game.
ShackNews has just dropped the news that the 360 version of the hit RTS has been massively delayed by the developer, Massive Entertainment. The game is now not expected to see a release until 2008 and no reasons for the delay have been officially given.
The worst part is that the delay doesn't even get specific - there's no month or quarter attached to the new date. Not even an 'early' 2008, just 2008, so for all we know it may not be out until December 31st, 2008.
The game is definitely worth picking up if you have even a passing interest in RTS or tactical games. The focus on small squads and teams really makes the game feel up-close and personal despite the fact that you are waging war on a massive scale.
Oh, and the game is pretty as hell and has in-built support for DirectX 10.
Still, as bad as the delay is for console owners, at least you can play the PC version first and get yourself involved in some really frantic multiplayer skirmishes. You can even pass the time by discussing your disappointment in
the forums, if you want.
