Comedian Will Ferrell has announced a Twitch livestream event that will take place if $375,000 is raised through an IndieGoGo campaign.
The campaign, Will Ferrell’s SuperMegaBlasMax Gamer Challenge, will raise money for Cancer for College and DonateGames.org, charities which help children with cancer and cancer survivors.
Donating to the campaign gives gamers a chance to be selected in a sweepstake to play video games with Ferrell at a live event streamed over Twitch.tv. Each donation tier includes at least one entry to the sweepstake, with higher amounts giving more entries.
The donation tiers also offer various rewards and Ferrell has partnered with Amazon, Xbox and Twitch itself to offer gifts at different levels. Even the $10 donation is rewarded with a $5 Amazon gift voucher redeemable on digital game downloads.
At the time of writing, the campaign has already raised just over £23,000. A reward tier offering autographed Xbox controllers for $250 has already sold all 20 available and the next tier up offering autographed cowbells for $500 has currently sold 18 out of 20.
According to Ferrell, the target of $375,000 is to one-up the $300,000 he raised a few months ago by hosting a drum-off fundraiser against Red Hot Chilli Peppers drummer Chad Smith on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
’After deep analysis and planning, I was basically convinced gamers should be able to raise more than musicians and RHCP fans....right? I mean, aren't there a million kajillion gamers out there?’ said Ferrell on the fundraising page.
The campaign is live at
WillFerrellHatesCancer.org and will be running for another 32 days.
