Indie 2D building and exploring sandbox Terraria is heading to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
A post on the 505 Games forum confirms the upcoming next-gen editions of the title and slates them for a late 2014 release. These versions will include everything from the game’s 1.2 content patch as well as some as yet undisclosed new features.
The Playstation 4 version of Terraria will be demonstrated at E3, showing off cross-play and cross-save functionality between the Playstation 4 and PS Vita.
Terraria first launched on the PC in 2011 and was met by a positive critical reception. In 2013, Terraria made its way to the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PS Vita. Mobile and tablet versions were also developed for iOS and Android systems. The PC version alone has sold more than 2 million copies.
The game was developed by two-man development outfit Re-Logic, comprised of Andrew Spinks and Finn Brice. Updates beyond bug-fixes were initially halted in early February 2012, but further development kicked off again in 2013 resulting in a significant content update with version 1.2.
Last year, Spinks confirmed that there is currently further work taking place on more endgame content for Terraria and that he is planning a sequel to the title.
