So, I was chatting to my good friend Darth Vader this morning and he let me in on a little secret.
"
Joe, you can expect to get much more use out of your Wii next year. It is my gift to you, for your birthday." He told me with a voice like used sandpaper. I asked for details and he outlined how the Wii version of the new
Star Wars title,
The Force Unleashed, will feature an exclusive lightsaber duel mode.
"
That's amazing, Papa Vader! How is it you know what I'll be getting for my birthday?" I asked him.
"
I have felt your presents."
Ok, it's a lame joke, but the fact behind it is still true and Lucasarts has officially announced yesterday that the Wii version of
The Force Unleashed will let players wield a lightsaber through their wiimotes. The nunchuck meanwhile will be responsible for using force powers and for movement.
The game casts players as Darth Vader's secret apprentice, off on a secret mission to do secret things. We'd love to tell you more about it but, well, it's all a bit top-secret. In fact, all that is known is that the game is set between the events of Episode III and Episode IV and that it will involve killing an awful lot of Jedi
and Stormtroopers.
Why are you killing both, I hear you ask. Well, it's because the secret apprentice is so incredibly secret that not even the Stormtroopers know who he is.
According to the official press release, the Wii version is in development by Krome Studios and will allow players to fight each other in Duel mode to determine who is the
"Ultimate Jedi Master".
"
The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because the console's motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life," said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts. "
We've worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force."
Unfortunately, the game isn't out until next Spring but in the meantime you can discuss it in
the forums and speculate on which is the best
Star Wars game ever. Actually, that last bit is a joke too - everybody knows it's
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight.
