Sony is looking to work MP3 and CD support into the Playstation 4 following the criticism it received when announcing that the next generation console had ditched these features.
Talking to
Giant Bomb, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said that he was surprised that so many people 'passionately reacted' to the news that there would not be MP3 or CD support at launch.
According to Yoshida, the move was not made to force people into subscribing to the company's streaming music service, Music Unlimited.
'The focus has been more on the game features. Some of the features we wanted but we couldn't get in on day one' said Yoshida. A revised timeline of when Sony can include these features is currently being discussed at present.
Unlike the Playstation 3, the Playstation 4 will also not be able to stream video files and work as a media server. Although it looks like the dropped MP3 and CD support is on the drawing board, media server capability has not been discussed.
The details on the system's limitations were set out in a frank FAQ released on the Playstation Blog. As well as streaming and music issues, the console will also not support Blu-rays or DVDs without the download of a day-one update. The post also mentioned that although it will support Ustream and Twitch for uploading recorded game footage, Youtube integration will not be supported at launch.
The Playstation 4 is due to release on November 29 in the UK, a week behind the Xbox One. At launch, the system will have approximately 23 games available including Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack as system exclusives and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts which will also feature on Microsoft's consoles.
