A report in a Chinese-language newspaper - cited by Digitimes - suggests that Sony's PlayStation 3 games console has completed its first batch of production at one of ASUS' manufacturing facilities.
Sony sent around 200,000 console kits to ASUS in June. These kits have been assembled and are on the way back to Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
The fact that the console is now in production must mean that the hardware specifications have been finalised in readiness for the mid-November launch.
The report also stated that more console kits will be sent to ASUS this month and then production will be ramped up in September and October - with more than a million units produced - in order to meet Sony's two million consoles at launch promise.
If Sony has its way, it will ship four million consoles by the end of 2006 and that figure will rise to six million by the end of March 2007.
ASUS is not the only manufacturer involved in the production of Sony's consoles, as Foxconn is also rumoured to build the new console "when demand rises". You can read more here.
