As the release of
Resident Evil 5 starts to loom ever closer, Capcom has been eager to let everyone know that it definitely won't be the last game in the long-running series.
One thing nobody expected though is that it might be the last game of its type in the series and that the next game will be a complete reboot for the franchise.
According to
1-UP though, that's exactly what's on the cards.
Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi has been talking about plans for the next title and has apparently confirmed that the next
Resident Evil game will be something totally new.
"
Resident Evil 5 is practically guaranteed to be the last of its kind," said 1-UP. "
Takeuchi assured us that a reboot is in order for the inevitable Resident Evil 6."
What exactly this reboot may constitute hasn't been elaborated on at all yet, so it's entirely possible that the news could be as underwhelming as a new control system or swapping zombies out for ghosts. On the other hand though, it could be something a lot more different and dramatic - epic-level zombie-defense RTS, anyone?
There's still a good week or two until the release of
Resident Evil 5, though the playable demo is currently available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In the mean time, why not share your speculations on
the forums?
