The Playstation 4 now supports the downloading and installing of a range of digital titles before they are officially released.
A pre-loading plan announced by Sony brings the Playstation 4’s digital service in line with what PC gamers are used to. Games installed before the release date will not be playable, but it does mean that a pre-ordered game can be prepared so that players can jump in straight away on day one.
Pre-ordered titles will be automatically downloaded and installed on the attached Playstation 4 by default so long as the console remains in standby mode. The pre-installed games will also display a countdown timer telling players how much longer they will have to wait before they can access the title.
The first game to be available to pre-load is Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark which releases on June 24. Other games that will support pre-loading include Destiny, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Bloodborne, Battlefield Hardline, Far Cry 4 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
This functionality will also be coming to Playstation 3 orders in the near future.
During E3, several games were announced for Sony’s newest console including Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet 3 and Dark Souls developer From Software’s Bloodborne.
Further details were also revealed for Uncharted 4, The Order 1886 and there was a surprise appearance from LucasArts classic Grim Fandango which will be seeing a Playstation 4 and PS Vita release.
