Classic Star Wars themed space flight sims X Wing and TIE Fighter are getting digital re-releases via Good Old Games.
The special edition digital releases through GOG.com will mark the first time the two games have been available digitally and will be a boon to anyone who cannot get the original DOS versions running.
X Wing Special Edition will include the collector’s CD-ROM version and expansions Imperial Pursuit and B Wing. TIE Fighter will also include the Defender of the Empire expansion.
The digital editions of the classic Lucasarts titles are a result of a new deal that GOG has struck with Disney, the studio’s new owners. The partnership should result in approximately 30 titles being released on GOG.com that all keep to the the site’s DRM-free philosophy.
Other classic Lucasarts games that will be coming to the site include Sam & Max Hit the Road, The Secret of Monkey Island and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
X Wing was first released in 1993 and is set shortly before A New Hope whilst its sequel TIE Fighter was released a year later in 1994 and is set just after the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back.
TIE Fighter in particular became a fan favourite for its unusual decision to start players off in the role of an ordinary pilot in the empire’s fleet, sat at the helm of one of the most fragile ships in the Star Wars universe.
