Wargaming has today shared further details about the upcoming Grand Finals 2015 competition for World of Tanks esports teams.
Part of the Wargaming.net League, the esports division for World of Tanks, the Grand Finals 2015 will take place on the weekend of April 25-26 at the EXPO XXI exhibition centre in Warsaw, Poland, and will be sponsored by Intel, Razer and paysafecard.
The event will see 12 teams from around the globe competing for first place and a share of the $300,000 prize pool – exact prize divisions are yet to be announced. The dozen finalists will be announced during the seeding ceremony, which takes place on April 2 at 7pm CET (6pm GMT) and will be streamed in English on the
WGLEU official Twitch channel.
Five regions will be putting their best two teams forward for the finals – Asia and Pacific, Commonwealth of Independent States, Europe, North America and China. As well as these ten, two Wild Card teams will be picked from any region for their outstanding performance or other qualities to make up the final 12.
This year will also be the first Grand Finals event to utilise the newly revamped tournament game format known as Attack/Defense mode. Designed to make battles more streamlined and more exciting to play (and importantly, to watch), this mode removes the option for a draw, has 30 percent shorter rounds and involves new team structures designed to eliminate low tier scouts and camping and increase the tank on tank action.
During intermissions Wargaming has promised other tank-based entertainment to keep crowds occupied. This includes a Red Bull stand with World of Tanks Blitz in-game competitions, Wargaming's own MGT-20 mobile gaming truck with team competitions of up to 14 players, and World of Tanks quizzes hosted by paysafecard. Finally, courtesy of the Polish Military Museum in Warsaw, both the T-34/85 (medium tank, Soviet Union) and M4AI Sherman (medium tank, USA) will be on display.
We'll be attending the fun and games in Warsaw ourselves (come and say hi!), and the Grand Finals 2015 is free to attend for the public as well, with prizes and giveaways promised too. For those that can't make it, live streams in English and Russian will be available.
