Ubisoft has confirmed a delay to the Windows release of third-person hack-'em-up Watch Dogs 2, to disabuse anyone of the notion that it had learned its lessons from the delays of its predecessor.
Infamous for, sadly, a major graphical downgrade between the game's
unveiling and
eventual release, along with a
PR stunt confused for a bomb, Watch Dogs wasn't an unalloyed success for Ubisoft. Nevertheless, the company has forged ahead with
a sequel, and its release date is just around the corner - for console gamers, at least.
Ubisoft has confirmed that it is giving itself an extra two weeks to polish the Windows version of Watch Dogs 2, pushing back the release date from November 15th to November 29th. '
Our team is committed to quality and delivering the best Watch_Dogs experience possible,' the company claimed in its
statement to fans. '
With this extra time, we’ll be able to ensure that Watch Dogs 2 runs smoothly across a broad range of hardware, as well as add that extra polish to those features which matter the most to our community.'
The Windows release, Ubisoft has claimed, is more than a simple port, promising full 4K resolution support with high-resolution textures and extra details, no frame limiter, full multi-GPU support at launch, multi-monitor support, and all the tweaks all so often missing from multi-platform releases including a field-of-vision (FOV) slider, pixel density sliders, and support for various anti-aliasing algorithms.
The delay will not, Ubisoft has stated, affect the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases of the game, which are still scheduled for November 15th.
