Ubisoft has just announced a brand new strategy IP that's set for a 2009/2010 release on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, called
RUSE. Unveiled at GDC this year, the game is a World War 2 real-time strategy with some impressive new technology built in.
We got a chance to have a brief look at
RUSE just ahead of the announcement at a special Ubisoft event last week and, from what we saw, the game looks to be heavily based around the idea of tricking your opponents using some special tactics that were actually used in World War 2 - such as erecting false bases to distract enemies.
According to our brief chat with the developers the game is heavily influenced by the rules of poker, with players constantly trying to outwit each other with a series of bluffs and counters. That said, what we saw reminded us more of
The War Magician than anything else.
RUSE will also showcase Ubisoft's cool new IRISZOOM engine, which is built to let players zoom in and out to great extremes, taking the view seamlessly from a top-down tactical map to an up-close camera that focuses on single units.
"
With R.U.S.E., Ubisoft is once again shaking up a genre, offering an RTS with a twist that will thrill gamers," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft, in the announcement.
"
Ubisoft is known for innovation and R.U.S.E. continues that tradition, offering the most immense and detailed maps ever seen in an RTS. Players can explore the maps using IRISZOOM Engine, which provides an aerial, smooth interaction unlike anything ever seen before."

RUSE piqued your interest, or are you getting tired of the recent influx of RTS games? Let us know your thoughts in
